Energy Advisor Courses
Training programs to prepare you to be an Energy Advisor candidate for the Foundation Level and the Energy Advisor exam that could lead to a career or work in the energy efficiency and green building industries. There are two exams that candidates must pass before they can join a service organization and work on probationary files before they can become a registered energy advisor.
NOTE: Natural Resources Canada does not provide Energy Advisor Training, nor does NRCan license any organization to do Energy Advisor Training. However, Blue House Energy is recognized as offering online Energy Advisor Exam Prep training across Canada.
Natural Resources Canada Exams Candidates MUST Pass
-
The Foundation Level Exam requires a strong background and working knowledge in building science principles for new and existing homes as well as construction technology in general.
-
The Energy Advisor Exam requires basic Energuide Rating System knowledge such as the EnerGuide Rating services, eligible homes, data collection requirements, upgrade recommendations, energy modelling, and quality assurance.
Deliver Energuide Rating Services
A registered Energy Advisor works with Service Organizations to deliver the EnerGuide Rating System from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). With further training, Energy Advisors can go on to additional certification like Energy Star for New Houses and multi unit residential buildings, depending on the service organization.
An Energy Advisor needs a broad working knowledge, but many specialize in New Homes and work mainly with builders during construction, or deliver EnerGuide Rating Services for existing homes directly to homeowners, often through local energy efficiency programs. Many provincial and regional programs identify the NRCan EnerGuide Rating System as the way homeowners can be eligible for rebates and incentives.
Training to Pass The NRCan exams
Blue House Energy offers training programs for people interested in becoming energy advisors. Our training programs focus on helping you prepare for each exam. Even if you've got lots of experience in construction and renovation, we know that these exams are challenging, and it is very important to prepare for them with a solid understanding of the building envelope, and knowledge of building science.
That's why we include a whole module on skills, strategies and tips for passing a multi-question exam. We even have a timed practice exam to help you prepare and be ready for the experience.
Get In On the Foundation Level
The Foundation Level Exam is a crucial step, assessing the competencies necessary for further certification. Becoming a registered energy advisor involves passing both exams - the Foundation Exam and the Energy Advisor Exam and meeting the standards set by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).
The Foundation Level Exam is more challenging because there is a broad range of topics that Energy Advisors need to be familiar with including:
-
Computer Skills
-
Numeracy
-
Construction
-
Building Science for New and Existing Homes
-
House As A System and Envelope First Approach
