Home Construction Regulatory Authority

Since 2015, Blue House Energy has been a recognized training provider for mandatory competency training for new builder and vendor registrants under Ontario’s New Home Warranty Program

Blue House Energy is a recognized training provider for Home Construction Regulatory Authority.

The Home Construction Regulatory Authority requires that registrants must prove competency levels in each of seven areas before they can be licensed to build or sell houses in Ontario. Blue House Energy has partnered with the Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) to provide online training for all seven competency areas in one place. You can purchase all of the courses at trainingOntario. Our Construction Technology course is featured in trainingOntario’s curriculum.

Note: As of Monday, Feb. 1, 2021 the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) assumed responsibility of builder and vendor licensing in the province of Ontario.

Like Blue House Energy, trainingOntario offers online courses with no classroom time so you can work at your own pace at your own computer, on your own schedule.

If you are a Home Construction Regulatory Authority registrant who needs to take construction technology, please purchase it through TrainingOntario.

You have 90 days (3 months) to complete any of the trainingOntario courses once you’ve registered (extensions can be purchased). Make sure you give yourself enough time to complete all the competencies -- you should schedule a minimum of 21 days per course.

Please note that you don’t take the final exam for Construction Technology or any of the other competency areas online. The final exams are proctored by Algonquin College. HCRA registrants must sign up for exam dates for each course. Exams are held regularly at testing centres throughout the province. Find exam dates at your local testing centre from Algonquin so you can plan your training and testing schedule.

"Studies over the last 20 years have shown a worrying energy performance gap – where buildings are consistently found to use more heating energy than designers had predicted and Energy Performance Certificates indicate."
