## New Courses

### MATH

Everybody loves math. Who doesn’t love math? We’re so in love with math that we’ve built out a two-part course on it. Check out your math strength and weaknesses with these short self-evaluation forms (Arithmetic, Geometry, Conversions) and then get ready to level up!

Everyone who works in residential construction needs decent, everyday math skills. These can be grouped into five areas:

• Quantity and number

• Space and shape

• Data handling and chance

• Problem solving

• Patterns and relationships

Construction Math 1 & 2 will be available at the end of October 2018. You will be able to purchase the two parts separately or as a full course, depending on what you need to focus on.

Here are the learning objectives for the two part course.

### Construction Math 1

#### Module 1: Introduction

At the end of this module you will be able to:

• Apply the basic functions of arithmetic in construction-based word problems

• Describe the basic geometric shapes and figures commonly encountered in construction

• Explain the function of algebra and working with variables

#### Module 2: Simple Geometry

At the end of this module you will be able to:

• Calculate perimeters of squares and rectangles

• Calculate areas of squares and rectangles

• Calculate volumes of cubes and rectangular prisms

### Construction Math 2

#### Module 3: Complex Geometry

At the end of this module you will be able to:

• Calculate perimeters of triangles, parallelograms. rhombuses and circles

• Calculate areas of triangles, parallelograms, rhombuses and circles

• Calculate volumes of triangular prisms and cylinders

#### Module 4: Conversions

At the end of this module you will be able to:

• Execute conversions between roof slope angles, percentages and pitches

• Execute conversions between metric and imperial units

• Execute conversions between imperial and metric units

We’ll be posting the course outlines and purchasing information in the next couple of weeks, but here’s what the courses will cost ya

Construction Math 1: \$150

Construction Math 2: \$150

Bundle o’ Construction Math 1 & 2: \$265, save \$35

Like all of our courses, once everything is online, you can pay for Construction Math up front, or you can choose to use our payment plan option.

Contact us if you’d like to pre-order (payment plan doesn’t apply to this - sorry!).

### Energy Advisor Foundation Training (EAFT)

And it needs to be tough.

Finding training close by, that fits your schedule, can be even tougher.

Energy Advisors need to have strong knowledge in building science, construction, math, mechanicals, plans reading, and site safety.

To make it easier to get past the foundation exam, and into EA training, and then into the field, we’re working on a completely online/on demand Energy Advisor Foundation Training bundle. There will be five courses in the bundle:

• Construction Technology

• Home Performance for New and Existing Houses

• Construction Math (1 & 2)

• Construction Safety

We are still working on production of some of the courses. You can buy the bundle for \$350+tax while we’re still building it. Once all of the courses are online, the regular price will be \$495+tax.

√   Construction Technology (covers 80% or more of the learning objectives for the Foundation Exam)

√   Construction Math 1 - introduction to arithmetic, algebra, and geometry (online 28 Sept. 2018)

Check out these two blog articles (Arithmetic and Simple Geometry) that go through the content of Construction Math 1

√   Construction Safety Course (via BC Construction Safety Association)

Part 2 of Construction Math is a deeper dive into geometry and a module on conversions. It will be online by the end of October.

## What our customers are saying

• If you are planning a house build or renovation, understanding Building Science is important to avoid repetitive heating costs and possible water damage later. Shawna and her team know their stuff.

K.W., General Manager, Halifax, NS
• Studies over the last 20 years have shown a worrying energy performance gap – where buildings are consistently found to use more heating energy than designers had predicted and Energy Performance Certificates indicate.

Oliver Drerup, Former Head of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation - International
• I am pleased to hear that you will be undertaking a new initiative to further trades training in residential energy efficiency. CMHC supports the building of industry awareness and capacity to deliver more sustainable technologies and practices in the housing sector.

Duncan Hill, P. Eng., Acting Director, Sustainable Housing and Communities Policy and Research Policy, Research and Planning, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
• Over the last 20+ years I have been speaking to and training thousands of new home builders and renovators across North America.

Gord Cooke, Air Solutions
• All I can say is … wow!  You have nailed it! I just watched the 5 minute overview of what all your training videos will attempt to accomplish, and am very impressed.  I am so proud that I know you both, this is incredibly good.

Gregory A. Pedrick, C.E.M., Project Manager, New York State Energy Efficiency Agency
• This training is easy use and in a perfect format.

Dan Drummond, Training Director, Canada Wood China
• It is very well centred on the learner's experience. Visually-based rather than text-based delivery make the modules straightforward and non-intimidating. I like the way the expected learning outcomes are clearly presented and the information is clearly applicable to practical work.

Michelle Harding, Professional Builders Institute of BC
• This is primo education that goes way beyond training.

Chris Rosemont, BASF
