Blue House Energy (BHE) is gearing up to support the Greener Homes Initiative and the call for homeowners to invest in their homes to make them more comfortable while at the same time reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Canada’s Greener Homes Initiative requires all homes in the program to have an EnerGuide home evaluation carried out by a registered Energy Advisor. Energy Advisors have to pass a Foundation Exam and an Energy Advisor Exam to become eligible to be registered with Natural Resources Canada.

“We have a nationally-available, ten-week long online training program for people interested in becoming Energy Advisors,” says Carla Harder, Program Coordinator at Blue House Energy. “We’ve been providing Energy Advisor Foundation and House Exam Preparation online since 2018 as a cost-effective way for people to get into this expanding part of the industry.”

Sarah Grant, Co-Founder of Goldfinch Energy was eager to pivot her career from the nonprofit sector to helping homeowners adopt the latest clean energy technologies.  "Blue House Energy's online training worked so well for me as a mom of three young kids looking to switch my career. The self-paced content provided the flexibility I needed with the depth of content that enabled me to quickly gain the wide breadth and depth of knowledge required by energy advisors.” Within a year and during COVID, she prepared for and passed both exams. “I enjoyed both the Foundation training and Energy Advisor training and found that they, in combination with a mentorship, greatly helped me prepare for the exams." said Grant.

The Energy Advisor Exam Prep program was developed in part by support from BC Housing’s  Building Excellence Research & Education Grants program.

Features and benefits of the Energy Advisor Exam Prep package include:

  • Foundation Exam Prep in construction technology, construction math, plans reading, and more
