Build Your Skills for Better Home Retrofits
Good energy retrofits require more than installing efficient equipment or adding insulation. You need to understand how the whole house works as a system — and how changing one part can affect everything else.
Colchester County is offering free Whole House Energy Retrofit training for contractors, renovators and others interested in developing practical skills for home energy efficiency and retrofit work.
The six-week training session starts October 26. Seats are limited.
Whole House Energy Retrofit training builds practical building science knowledge you can apply to existing homes.
You'll learn how the building envelope, airtightness, insulation, moisture, ventilation and mechanical systems interact — and how to use that understanding to make better retrofit decisions that improve energy performance, durability, comfort and health.
Complete the online course around your work and other commitments while progressing through the program with a group of other participants.
The six-week program includes:
Approximately 6–8 hours of self-directed online learning each week
A 60-minute orientation session
A 60-minute live session with a Nova Scotia retrofit expert each week
Opportunities to ask questions and discuss real-world retrofit situations
A recommended weekly study guide
An open-book exam and certificate of completion
Weekly expert sessions help connect what you're learning online to the houses and retrofit challenges you'll encounter in the real world.
